Dog Obedience and Owner training Part 2

Ok so i said i would continue tommorow and that was a week ago!!

So it should now be clear that the relationship between dog and owner depends on the owner being a figure of authority, to use a not very popular word, a dictator.

So here's a few tips to get general obedience improved.
When you and your dog go through the front door you go first the dog follows, it should always follow whether you're leaving the car or entering the house, its alpha behaviour.
You're the stronger, you're in charge so you go first, always!

At home set areas where the dog is not allowed, the more the better, its your house and the dog is priveleged to live there. Its also a good idea to have times when the dog cannot enter at all, wandering around the yard or garden certainly wont do him any harm.

Don't eat with the dog, i don't mean don't share his bowl, I mean don't eat at the same time. Make him wait a while, you decide when he eats and make him sit for it rather than just letting him dive in as soon as the bowl hits the floor. When you can put food on the floor and the dog will wait to be told he can eat you know you're getting there!

After a hard day at work and you walk into the house don't greet the dog first infact until you are settled don't greet the dog at all.

Playtime starts by you not by him, ignore his nudging and licking, he musn't be allowed to initiate the proceedings because he is not in charge. You can form a great bond with your dog through play but on your terms and in your time when youi want it.

So there are a few pointers for an already disobedient mut next week i will look at a training program for your dog.

Disobedient dogs and Owner training.

First of all let’s get something straight disobedience and misunderstanding, or rather, not understanding are two completely different things. Your dog is not a naughty dog if he doesn’t do as he’s told when he doesn’t understand your commands, that’s your fault for being weak plus you are probably not putting in enough the time with your dog.

The dog is only being disobedient when he understands exactly what you want him to do but he refuses to do it or he does something else. The dog probably is aware he can get away it and that again is your fault!

Sometimes it’s just bloody annoying but be warned disobedience can become a very serious issue pretty quickly. No I’m not thinking about risks to you, I’m not concerned about you only about the dog, it doesn’t bother me if he bites you or rips up your slippers what bothers me is your inability to protect him from his own natural behaviour in a world not developed for the wellbeing of dogs. If he starts chewing the flex to your TV is he going to stop when you tell him? If he takes a fancy to a dog on the other side of the street and makes a break for it how are you going to stop him getting hit by a truck?

Disrespect and disobedience go together like pipe and slippers if your dog understands but does not obey then the relationship between you and your dog is weak and he has little respect for you. This is dangerous for the both of you and must be dealt with immediately before it manifests itself into severe disobedience and passive aggression.

It’s not rocket science; in this instance dogs are no different to us. If they can get away with it they probably will and when they’ve got away with it once they’ll feel more confident about doing it again. So it is extremely important that your dog knows from day one who wears the trousers, who is the leader, the boss, the person in charge.

Now this is where we must separate ourselves from our dog to do the best for him and this is where people fail. A dog is an animal that must be commanded and is happiest when you make all the decisions for him. Yes absolutely everything, you decide what he does and when he does it. He has no say in anything, no input and no opinion.

Tomorrow I will give you some tips on regaining your dogs respect or if you are lucky and haven’t yet bought your dog then you will have the opportunity to avoid the problems we have talked about thus far.
